Basic, powder, for Streptococcus thermophilus (100-500-1000) gm

It is a specialized medium formulated for the selective cultivation of Streptococcus thermophilus in yogurt testing. It efficiently supports lactic streptococci, including S. cremoris, S. diacetilactis, and S. lactis, while enabling isolation of lactose-deficient mutants. Its nutrient-rich base with lactose and supplements promotes streptococcal growth, stabilizes pH, and restricts lactobacilli proliferation.

  • Ascorbic acid:0.5 g/L
  • Lactose:5 g/L
  • Magnesium sulfate: 0.25 g/L
  • Meat extract:5 g/L
  • Meat peptone (peptic):2.5 g/L
  • Sodium glycerophosphate:19 g/L
  • Soya peptone (papainic):5 g/L
  • Tryptone:2.5 g/L
  • Yeast extract:2.5 g/L

Preparation

Suspend 42 g of the medium in 1 liter of distilled water and allow it to hydrate. Heat to boiling, distribute into appropriate containers, and sterilize by autoclaving at 121 °C for 15 minutes.
